The band 76 -78

Arguably the most powerful Loris line-up, featuring , from left to right, Curtis, Martin, Phil, Micky and Dave, this band ran from March 1976 to the end, after the departure of Andy and then Paul Keatley. This is the band which mainly features on the Recordings 1975-77 album, although Andy is there on some of the earlier numbers.

The band had tremendous range - from ballads like A Swarm of You and Long Time Looking for a Dream, to out-and-out rockers like Ghost Train as well as the jazz-influenced A Better Way to Be and Mayday. Curtis’s earthy vocals are underpinned by Martin and Micky’s amazing rhythm section and woven into the elaborate textures of Phil’s acerbic guitar and Dave’s virtuoso keyboard playing and band arrangements Sometimes it’s Herbie Hancock, sometimes Quincy Jones, sometimes Keith Jarrett, but always with the brilliant Bristow stamp of individuality. It may be that this versatility of style made it difficult for an industry built on pigeon holing to accept the band. On the other hand, in retrospect, it may be what makes Slender Loris still listenable in comparison with other contemporary outfits.
